Historical Property Boundaries

Historical Property Boundaries

Postby crazylion » Wed Sep 03, 2014 2:25 pm

Does anyone have a link to a map or physical description of the property boundaries of the Maguire Plantation and/or The Promised Land, I am attempting to find out if where I live, was part of those properties. My address is 8045 Norris Lake Rd Snellville 30039, and yes I'm sorry this actually is in Dekalb County, but is a 300 yrd stretch and then becomes Gwinnett again. I have been digging for about (2) two weeks and have not been able to dig anything up yet.

Thanks
Mike

I don't know that anyone has established the boundaries of The Promised Land.
In 1820 Thomas Maguire drew the fractional lot 351 of the 4th district. The 1860 tax digest shows 956 acres but only lists land lot 348 4th dist. The 1864 digest is 1200 acres and lot 348. These lots were 250 acres so he must have had about four lots. Some of the land he mentions in his journal as acquiring in 1863. If he owned any land on the DeKalb side, you'll need to do a search at the DeKalb county courthouse for the records.

Thanks for the information, here's another question, is there any documented cases where maps have been found carved in stone in Gwinnett County? I helieve I have discovered one on the property that in my opinion clearly shows Smoke Creek across to Norris Lake Rd, the "Y" to Dennis Springs Rd, crossing Norris Lake Rd to Amy Rd and what appears is perhaps Joseph Dr and maybe Grey Ct. I attached a picture of the stone it is approx 3x2 feet in size, i darkened the obvious man made lines with charcoal so they would appear clearer.

My first impression was Rockbridge where it breaks off to Annistown rd at the top and later where S. Deshong splits off to the left and Johan crossing in the center. I haven't heard of any rock maps but maybe someone here has.
