Morgan GRIFFITH

Postby Paula » Wed Jan 02, 2013 6:09 pm

Searching for any information on the Morgan Griffith family. He is in the 1830 Gwinnett census (age 50-60) but seems to disappear after that.

Gwinnett County Inferior Court Minutes 1820-1832. P. 143: Ordered that the report of the Commissioners appointed to lay out a new road from Gates’ Ferry Road near Griffith’s or Holt’s and crossing Yellow River at Williams Bridge then running toward Echols on the Hightower Trail as far as this County line, be and the same is hereby accepted.

It is uknown if this reference to Griffith is for Morgan or another Griffith. At any rate, it doesn't help with learning what may have happened to him. He was in Morgan Co. in 1820 and Oglethorpe in the early 1800's. No record of him in any 1840 census leads me to believe he may have died in Gwinnett Co. Thanks for any help or advice.

I think David Griffith may be a younger brother of Morgan. I have no definite proof, but David seems to follow Morgan from the early 1800's to the 1830's. David appears in the 1830 Gwinnett census three households from Morgan. However, he isn't in the 1840 Gwinnett census either, although it may be him in the 1840 Cobb Co census.
Thanks for letting me know David was in the land lottery. Morgan was in the 1807 Georgia Land Lottery from Oglethorpe Co. but sold that same land the following year.

I checked the GHS Cemetery listings and did not find a marked grave for a Griffith that is for someone born before 1800.
