Tom Ewing
Thomas H. Ewing (Tom), a Member of the Board of Trustees, and one of our Wednesday office volunteers, was born and reared in Gwinnett County. He grew up on a dairy farm at the intersection (northeast) of Webb Gin House Road and Ronald Reagan Parkway. He attended Snellville Consolidated School grades 1 – 11, he graduated in 1948. He was on the basketball team and an active participant in FFA, with his entrants in the Gwinnett County Fair winning Blue Ribbons. He joined the US Air Force in Jan 1951, and retired with 23 years active service in 1974. He earned a Bachelor Degree in Business Management from Omaha University in 1968. After responding to a request to return to work for the US Air Force as a Civil Service Employee, he completed 21 years in that capacity, retiring again in Jan 1996 after 44 years total service with the Air Force. His career took him from Gwinnett Co. in 1950, but he “came home” in 1996. While he was away he kept in touch with all his ties in Gwinnett Co. He developed the genealogical information for four families in the book “Gwinnett County families, 1818-1868”. He is active in retirement traveling, volunteering, genealogical research, golfing, reading and one of his favorites, just “piddling”. He is married to the former Phebe Carolyn Aderhold, also of Gwinnett Co. They have two sons, Stephen in Birmingham, AL., and Stewart in Cumming, GA.
