I'm a native of Gwinnett County. I was born in Buford in 1964 at
the old Hutchins Memorial Hospital on Scott Street. It is now a day care center.
I have been interested in Genealogy since I was 16. My Friend Barry Moore and I
started to join the Historical Society at that time but just decided to get do
some research instead. I think that we both wish we had of joined back then. If
you are thinking about joining don't wait join now so you don't make the mistake
that we did.
I own a Barber shop in Buford, and have been barbering since
1984. I'm have also been a Barber Instructor since 1993. I got interested in
computers in 1992 and although I have no formal training. I am self
taught in several areas of Computers. I work doing some hardware work for
several small companies in the area.
In 1996 I started a part time Web Design Business with my friend and GHS member
Tony DiMaio. Tony is a Programmer with a major software Company in the Atlanta
area. Tony does all of the database work for the members section of the website
and on a few other projects. Tony is also the programmer who wrote the
Cemetery Database Program which is used with the
GHS Cemetery
1818-2000 on CD and the
Cemetery Database of Jackson
County, Georgia (DVD) and CD.
I was the editor of
The Heritage Newsletter
for
two and a half years. I gave it up to be able to give more of my time to helping
with other projects that I was getting involved in. Shannon Coffey is doing a
great job with the Newsletter.
I currently serve on the Board of Managers as the Membership
Manager (since 1998) except for about nine months which Barry Moore stepped in
for me while I was working on the Newsletter and other projects. I stayed on the
committee while Barry served as chair.
I also serve as Web Site Manager and Webmaster (since 1997). This has allowed us
to combine the two and give our members a members only section of the site. I
will always appreciate any comments on the website.
I worked on the 1880 Census
book with some help from Barry Moore. I helped Barry Moore with the
1900 Census Book,
I formatted got ready for the printers the
Gwinnett County, Georgia: Marriages1833 -
1900 Tony DiMaio wrote the Marriage Program which the committee
used to input all of there data into one format.
I started the project of the Gwinnett County Families 1818-2005 book with Barry
Moore and Bill Baughman with the suggestion from Phyllis Davis that she would
like to see an updated version. While Myself and Barry got it started. Bill
Baughman recruited Alice McCabe, Pam Stenhouse and Walter Freeman and took the
ball and ran with it. They edited and conversed with the authors of
all of the manuscripts. With the help of Tony DiMaio we scanned over 320 family
photographs and I edited them for the book. Then I proceeded to format and index
it. Tony also created an online database program to keep track of all of the
family histories.
I look forward to serving GHS for many years to come.
