A Few Notes About This Index
The library collection at the Gwinnett Historical
Society (GHS) offers a wide variety of published records available for local and
Georgia research, as well as a growing collection of publications related to
other southern and eastern continental states. Major subject areas include
Georgia research by state and county, research in other states, military record
research, American Indian research, and selected national and regional research
records.
This index is compiled for the purpose of quick reference to these publications. The available publications are given here in several formats. Each format provides the shelf location, publication title, author, and subject matter key word. The shelf location refers to a bookcase section lettered from A to R and a shelf number from 1 to 6 (for example, B3 is the second bookcase on the left as you enter the library and the third shelf from the top on that bookcase). Publication titles do not include the articles “a”, “an”, or “the” in the title if they are the first words of the given title (for example, look for “Source” rather than “The Source”).
If a book is related to two or more key word categories (for example, “Cherokees of Walton County”), it may be referenced under both categories (for example, “Indian” and “GA – Walton”). The book will be shelved with one of these categories (for example, on shelf J4 with other books on Indians), and the other references will be to the same shelf location (for example, a “Walton County” reference would not find the book with other books on Walton County, but on the shelf with Indian references). Therefore, pay close attention to the given shelf locations.
