WHY STUDY HISTORY?

“No man is fit to be entrusted with the control of the present, who is ignorant of the past, and no people who are indifferent to their past, need hope to make the future great.”Author Unknown

  1. The history of the African American churches in the county is continuously being collected.  If your church history has not been submitted please contact the historical society for submission.

  2. The Ethnic History Committee is requesting relics from the Civil Rights Era in Gwinnett County.  If you have newspaper clippings, photos, books or any memorabilia from the era please contact us.

  3. A pictorial history of the African American community can be purchased at the Gwinnett Historical Society.  This publication contains over 200 photos that depict the life of African Americans in Gwinnett County.  The book spans more than a 100 years of history.  This publication was written by the Ethnic History Committee Chairperson, Jennifer E. Cheeks-Collins.

Please contact Jennifer Collins via email at Jennifer@gwinnetths.org if you have any questions.
